Animal-assisted therapy is becoming increasingly popular in institutions, schools and various practices, as it is an enormous enrichment for many people.
Training as a school companion dog and therapy companion dog
TRAINING SACRED DOG
"I found that in deep sorrow one can be helped by the quiet,
devoted companionship of a dog,
that no other source can provide."
(Doris Day)
Do you have a dog and work in an area where a therapy dog or a school companion dog can positively support your work and help people? Then you have come to the right place!
This course is suitable for
- People with pedagogical training, teachers, educators, social workers, therapists, pastors and counselors, coaches, trainers, doctors, nurses, etc. as well as dog owners who use their dogs to carry out animal-assisted interventions or visits to retirement homes, nursing homes, schools, kindergartens, medical practices, palliative or psychotherapeutic facilities, etc. or who would like to use their dog as an office dog.
Also suitable for private individuals who would like to learn more about their dog and about themselves.
Therapy dog teams are now active in the following areas:
- Seniors' and old people's homes and nursing stationsHospitalsRehabilitation clinicsClinics for psychiatry and psychotherapyHomes for people with multiple and severe disabilities of all agesKindergartens and children's homesSchool classes and special schools with integration classesSupported living groupsAs end-of-life care in hospicesAdvice centersEducational and pastoral care areasErgotherapeutic, speech-language, physiotherapeutic or psychological practices and more...
Dogs are individual personalities with their own strengths, weaknesses and characteristics. However, not every dog has the talent and balance to be used in animal-assisted work.
Depending on the area of application, therapy dogs and school dog teams work in settings in which they are exposed to many environmental stimuli. Background noises, strong smells, changing rooms and constantly new people with behavior that is sometimes unusual from a dog's perspective are just a few examples. It is therefore important that the dog has a stable and level-headed nature and is friendly towards people. A trusting and connected orientation towards its handler is important. Other criteria for the use of the dog are good basic obedience and good health.
So that we can get to know you and your dog before training, we will conduct an aptitude test with you and your dog.
